READING, PA – The Pennsylvania Benjamins announced today that wide receiver Jeremiah Payton has signed with the club following his collegiate career at University of Miami.
Payton adds a Power Four credential to the Benjamins offense, bringing experience from a high-standard receiver room and a foundation built against top-level competition. Head Coach Lee Johnson pointed to the details that translate quickly to the indoor game. “We signed Jeremiah because he brings a high-level standard to our receiver room,” Johnson said. “He understands detail, splits, and tempo.”
In 2020, Payton appeared in seven games and finished with five receptions for 35 yards, including a 13-yard catch in the season opener and snaps in multiple ACC matchups. While his college usage was limited, it came within a program environment where practice habits, route discipline, and timing are non-negotiable. Those traits align with IAL football, where spacing and precision often create separation as much as pure speed.
Payton joins Pennsylvania as another perimeter option who can stretch the formation, help open windows underneath, and provide a reliable target in situational packages. General Manager Gregg Fornario emphasized the fit and flexibility the signing provides. “This is a fit signing,” Fornario said. “We want more options outside and more answers in the passing game. Jeremiah gives us that.”
Payton will report to team activities as scheduled and will be integrated into the offensive system as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
