READING, PA – The Pennsylvania Benjamins announced today that defensive back Parnell Motley has signed with the club, adding proven ball production to the team’s secondary as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
Motley brings a résumé built on high-level competition and measurable results. During the 2019 season at Oklahoma, he appeared in 14 games with 13 starts, totaling 63 tackles, a team-leading nine pass breakups, and two interceptions. Head Coach Lee Johnson pointed to the trait that shows up consistently on film. “We signed Parnell because he competes at the catch point,” Johnson said. “He is disruptive on routes and he finishes plays.”
For Pennsylvania, those numbers translate into clear defensive value. Pass breakups disrupt timing and remove first reads. Interceptions end drives immediately. The tackle total reflects a complete defender who can finish in space, not a player limited to coverage snaps. That combination supports a defensive approach built to pressure quarterbacks and force rushed decisions, with a corner capable of holding up and contesting throws when the front gets aggressive.
General Manager Gregg Fornario emphasized how that kind of production lifts the entire unit. “When you add nine breakups and two picks from a corner season, you are adding confidence to your whole defense,” Fornario said.
Motley will report to team activities as scheduled and will be integrated into the defensive backfield as the Benjamins continue building their roster.
